PULLMAN, Wash.—Alabama State University (0-7) continues to search for their first volleyball victory of 2012 after falling to Seattle University (4-3) 3-0 (7-25, 14-25, 15-25) in their final game at the Cougar Challenge hosted by Washington State University.
Seattle jumped out to a 9-2 lead in game one and never looked back on their way to the win. Seattle hit .348 in the game and was a perfect seven-for-seven on side outs. ASU could never recover from Seattle's big jump to start the set, while ASU struggled hitting -.067 in the game.
Game two was much closer as Seattle only led 8-7, but scored seven of the next eight points to push their lead out to 15-8 and the young Lady Hornets could never recover from the run.
Game three was much the same, as Seattle only led 10-9, but a 6-0 run pushed the lead out to 16-9 and again, ASU never recovered.
“We played with a lot of energy tonight, but we just lack the maturity,” Head Coach
Penny Lucas-White said. “I think we are going to hit the drawing board this week in practice. We have a lot of things we can grow from. We are doing some good things, but because we are so young we forget to do some very important small detailed things.”
“Like I said it doesn't matter how we start our season it is how we finish and I am going to keep my goal that preseason is going to prepare for us for the SWAC. If I can keep them focused there we are going to be fine.”
Chelsey Scott led the way for the Lady Hornets with five kills and
Rachel Smith had four. Anniiya Robinson had 11 assists while
Luiza Griz had a team-high eight digs.
Sarah Jaeckel had a game-high eight kills for Seattle and Jacquie Brice had 25 assists. Lanie Beadle had 13 digs.
ASU will be again be in a tournament on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 7-8 at the Bama Bash hosted by the University of Alabama.
