MONTGOMERY, Ala. | The Alabama State University women's soccer team closes out the regular season Thursday afternoon in Huntsville (Ala.) against rival Alabama A&M University in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play.

Alabama State (9-7, 7-2 SWAC) has a chance to earn the top seed in the upcoming SWAC Championship Tournament, to be held November 2-5 in Houston (Texas), with a victory. They currently sit in second place by percentage points behind Howard (8-9-1, 7-2-1 SWAC); however, due to the Bison tying Prairie View A&M on Sunday they will finish percentage points ahead of them. They will also finish percentage points ahead of Grambling State and Texas Southern, assuming they end the season with wins this week.

However, a loss by the Lady Hornets to Alabama A&M, and they could fall to as low to the fourth seed behind the Howard, Grambling State and Texas Southern.

Alabama State put themselves in position to capture the top seed by outscoring Jackson State and Southern by a combined 12-2, including a four-goal performance from senior
Ariela Lewis against the Jags. The senior leads the NCAA in active goals and points as she enters her final regular season contest. She also leads the conference and the Lady Hornets with 12 goals this season.

Lexi Krieger and
Inma Martinez each have scored six goals this season, with Krieger adding eight assists.
Teaggan Ilela has four goals and five assists for the Lady Hornets this season.

Gianna Guyot has played and started in 15 games for the Lady Hornets this season, allowing 31 goals and has a 2.06 goals against average on the year.
