BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Alabama State junior goalkeeper
Sheila Sanchez (Castellon, Spain) and junior defender
Kristen Thomas (Watkinsville, Ga.) earn weekly honors from the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) this week, announced Wednesday morning.
Sanchez was named the SWAC Goalkeeper of the Week for the second time this season after recording 20 saves in a 0-0 draw on the road against UAB on Friday night. She recorded eight saves in the opening half, six in the second half, and three in each of the two overtimes. In the second overtime, the junior recorded all three saves in one-on-one opportunities.
Meanwhile, Thomas was named the SWAC Defender of the Week for the second consecutive week after playing a vital role in the two matches for the Lady Hornets. She played 210 minutes in the two matches, helping record the second shutout of the season for Alabama State on the road Friday night.
UP NEXT
Alabama State returns to the ASU Soccer Complex for their final non-conference match of the season, facing Lipscomb on Friday night at 6 pm. Admission is free; however, Alabama State is a mask-mandatory campus and masks must be worn at all times.
