GAINESVILLE, Fla. | The Alabama State University men's and women's track and field teams had a record setting weekend at the Pepsi Florida Relays hosted by the Univeristy of Florida.
QUOTING COACH RITCHIE BEENE: "We had a successful weekend at the track. We traveled small but performed big. The athletes and coaches understood the assignment."
WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
- The 4-400 relay finished second running 3;47.68 with Delverna Broomfield, Shamia Jones, Khaliyah Anderson, and Morgan O'Neal. The four advanced from the preliminary round with a :346.90.
- Morgan O'Neal clocked a season-best 59.94 in the 400-hurdles
- Rebecca Bernadin set a personal-best with a 4:44.89 in the 1500-meter.
- Jaqual Bush's time of 21.16 in the 200-meter dash set a new season-best.
- Shamia Jonea ran a season-bet 2:08.83 in the 800-meter.
MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
- An ASU record fell when the team of Kendrick Winfield, Justus Smith, Khabeeba Mills, and Daquan Tate turned in a 3:07.25 to win the 4x400-meter relay finals. The time broke the ASU record set in Friday's prelims.
- Victor Smith, Matthew Clarke, Justus Smith, and Kendrick Winfield brought home gold in the 4x100 relay with a 39.43 after advancing from the preliminary round with a time of 39.62
- Victor Smith, Matthew Clarke, Justus Smith, and Kendrick Winfield posted a 39.63 4x100-elay in Friday's prelims, claiming fourth.
- Kendrick Winfield's 20.86 and Victor Smith's 20.93 in the 200-meter, both personal bests.
- Amos Beadle timed a 1:51.59 for a new personal-best in the 800-meter.
- Marcus Cade placed third in the high jump with a high jump height of 6 feet, 08 inches.
