Lewis and Starwood earn Player of the Week honors

BIRMINGHAM Ala. | The Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) released its first soccer weekly awards on Wednesday afternoon with a pair of Alabama State student-athletes earning awards.
 
Freshman defender Chase Lewis was named the conference Defensive Player of the Week after playing 118 minutes in a pair of matches last week. She was instrumental in the Lady Hornets holding Faulkner to just one goal in a 1-1 draw.
 
Meanwhile, Lauryn Starwood earned Goalkeeper of the Week honors after a pair of matches in goal for the Lady Hornets. She held Faulkner to just one goal in the final game of the week in a 1-1 draw and faced 17 total shots on the week with 12 saves. She recorded nine of those saves against Jacksonville in the season opener.
 
Alabama State (0-1-1) hosts UAB on Thursday night at 6 p.m. in its first home match of the season. Admission is free at the ASU Soccer Complex.
